At the mid point of the semester we presented to a jury of past masters students from studioWSH, along with architects from WSH, woodsbagot and Hayballs. the presentation had to be 7 minutes covers all research, mapping, physical model and digital exploration along with a final iteration put on site.
MAPPING
we mapped the site concertrating on two sets of data which could be implimented into our material system and would parametrically alter the outcomes. The sets of data were human (trajectories through the site) and natural (sunlight/shadow) as a percentage of the site.
TRANSITION TO DIGITAL
From the physical model, the material system was taken into maya and replicated. The metal rings were taken out to allow for a generic system. In maya we experimented with several different techniques. we started with nurb balls and lofts between to create connections, then moved to polygon planes with particle collisions.
PROGRAM
in plato's academy, the 9 uses were selected from the classical schools and were then grouped into like academies
.
CREATIVE EXPRESSION
industrial design
sculpture
painting
INTELLECTUAL EXPRESSION
philosophy
music
PHYSICAL EXPRESSION
theatre
music
PHYSICAL EXPERIMENTS
mathematics
science
PEDAGOGY
Teaching methods no longer require the chalk and talk method of teaching, where everyone is orientated towards the front, the new pedagogy requires flexible spaces that can adapt to different teaching methods. The diagrams explored here are the third set of parameters which would be implemented to parametrically alter the internal spaces as required.
DEEP PLANNING
By using Unstudio's deep planning methods of future use, a projected use of the future building was attained and documented to predict the use of the spaces over two periods, a 24hour and over 365days
ITERATION ON SITE
A short flythrough displaying the implementation of our three forms of data.
Human movement generating a complex form, sunlight exposure on site parametrically controlling a cladding shading system and internal volumes volumetrically separated by morphing floor plates.

Siteless: Francois Blanciak
WEEK 2
Siteless is a new way of thinking about deisgn and architecture. it takes away site, cost, program, scale, clients and leaves only form. It is a new look at architecture as purely formal analysis. Blanciak, a french architect working in japan, presents 1001 hand drawn forms as a sort of manifesto. it was a refreshing way of looking at design, so with drawn from the methods taught in past design studios. The task was to beak down the book, digital and built architecture into 10 form related catagories, including; attomic accumulation, straps, strands, tensile membranes to name a few. Each group was allocated a part of the world to concentrate on, in our case it was America, below are some of the examples the group presented.
